Messier 7 (NGC 6475) in the constellation Scorpius is among the most beautiful open star clusters in the summer sky. It is an easy object for the naked eye and it resolves into a nice group of bright stars even in small binoculars. As the frequently used designation "Ptolemy Star Cluster" indicates, the object was already known to the Egyptian philosopher over 2000 years ago.
